After a scoreless first period, the Salzburg team fell behind 0–2 in the second period on goals by Dmitry Vozovik and Davide Schiavone. In the final four minutes of regulation, the Juniors tied the game at 2–2 on power-play goals by Jesse Juhola and Florian Lanzinger, before Vlastimil Dostalek sealed the victory on a power play in overtime.

Game Summary The Juniors started Game 3 with a full roster and had their first big chance through Paul Schuster in the 2nd minute, but Claes Endre made the save. The home team continued to set the pace, though Gröden tested Luca Haitzmann several times, and Jakob Schnabl came close to scoring in the 12th minute. Despite good chances, the Red Bulls were unable to take the lead during a power play in the final minutes of the first period.

The Juniors came out of the locker room with a dangerous edge in the second period as well, with Nick Maul in the 22nd minute, Maxim Eliseev in the 23rd minute, and Florian Lanzinger in the 24th minute all posing threats. The Salzburg team briefly celebrated during a power play in the 28th minute, but Maximilian Wurzer’s goal was disallowed following a video review. Shortly thereafter, Gröden capitalized on a period of increased pressure: Dmitry Vozovik scored in the 30th minute off a pass from Luca Biondi to make it 0-1, and in the 37th minute, Davide Schiavone extended the lead to 0-2 on a power play.

In the final period, the Juniors continued to press but initially squandered some excellent chances on the power play; Adrian Gesson failed to score when he was alone in front of the net in the 50th minute. At the other end, Haitzmann stood his ground during a breakaway by Luca Biondi in the 54th minute. In the closing stages, the Red Bulls pulled their goalie for a sixth skater while on the power play: Jesse Juhola scored in the 58th minute, and seven seconds before the end of regulation time, Florian Lanzinger tied the game again on the power play to make it 2-2. In overtime, the Juniors had to start shorthanded, and Vlastimil Dostalek scored in the 62nd minute to make it 2-3.

“We took far too many unnecessary penalties today. That kept giving them chances to get back into the game. At times, we let them get into our zone too easily, and overall we were too undisciplined. Especially in close games like this, we can’t afford to make those kinds of mistakes. We simply have to stay calmer and more disciplined in these situations. Now we need to make better use of the chances we get and immediately shift our focus to the next game on Tuesday. We have to keep working, stay on track, and be ready.”
