Game Summary
The Juniors traveled to Wolkenstein without their top scorer, Maxim Eliseev (ill), and Alexander Rebernig (EC Red Bull Salzburg). After an early chance for Val Gardena by Vlastimil Dostalek (4th minute), the home team struck decisively in the 5th minute. Matteo Luisetti converted a pass from Nicolo Fabio Esposito and Hannes Kasslatter to make it 1-0. An open back-and-forth ensued; Jesse Juhola had chances to tie the game in the 16th and 19th minutes, but was denied at the last second on both occasions.
The Juniors started the second period with a man advantage, and the tying goal came shortly afterward on a quick counterattack. Paul Oberhauser set up Luca Kogler in a three-on-one situation, and Kogler scored in the 23rd minute to make it 1-1. In the 29th minute, Benedikt Krainer won the puck with strong forechecking, Vyacheslav Permitin passed it on, and Niklas Korhonen made it 2-1. Val Gardena responded on the power play, with Vlastimil Dostalek tying the game at 2-2 with a one-timer in the 38th minute; another power play for the Juniors failed to restore their lead before the second intermission.
In the final period, the Juniors pressed for another goal, but Claes Endre stood firm against rebounds (44th minute) and further shots. Luca Kogler was denied in the 49th minute, and Maximilian Wurzer in the 50th minute. In the 51st minute, Val Gardena capitalized on a two-on-one situation, with Vlastimil Dostalek scoring to make it 3-2. Jacob Schnabl missed from close range after a pass from Luca Kogler (56th minute), and a late penalty in the closing stages denied Salzburg further opportunities, with Game 2 going to Val Gardena.

“It was a close game; in the end, they were just one goal better. We gave them too many chances and let the game slip away after taking a 2-1 lead. There were a few small mistakes that they were able to capitalize on. But we knew from the start that it wouldn’t be easy against Val Gardena. They’re a good team. Now the series is tied 1-1, and we’ll continue on Sunday.”
