Current Situation
Heading into their first match in Salzburg, the odds look promising for Milano HC. Five wins from their first seven games—all played away, as the new ice arena in Milan is not yet ready—have likely come as a surprise to many. However, Milan has assembled a formidable, North American-style roster that brings significant ICE Hockey League experience to the table. This includes Head Coach Doug Shedden, who served as head coach in Bolzano last season. (See the team profile article.)
Just last Wednesday, Milano secured a 4–2 victory in Klagenfurt against KAC—the team that had held the top spot since the start of the season (Bolzano took over the lead yesterday). Yesterday, however, the Milan side suffered only their second defeat of the season in Villach, enduring a heavy 2–7 loss.
A Dangerous Trio of Scorers
Milan’s scoring output is largely driven by a trio of forwards, all of whom are playing in the ICE Hockey League for the first time. Nick Caamano, Michael Dal Colle (both Canadian), and Blake McLaughlin (American) have each scored four goals so far. They are followed by Italo-Canadian Dante Hannoun—who has three goals to his name and previously spent three seasons (2021–24) playing for Pustertal—among others.
Red Bulls Slowly Gaining Momentum
After their worst start to a season in a long time, the Red Bulls are beginning to stabilize. Salzburg delivered in Feldkirch a well-organized performance at both ends of the ice, limiting the Pioneers to very few scoring opportunities.
Salzburg stalwart Peter Schneider is increasingly finding his scoring touch; his two-goal performance yesterday brings his tally to five. Benjamin Nissner, Dennis Robertson, Thomas Raffl, and newcomers Wyatt Kalynuk and Nick Poisson each have two goals to their name.
Statement from Alan Letang
"In Feldkirch, we played with passion for the full 60 minutes, executing well on both the power play and penalty kill. We managed the puck effectively and kept turnovers to a minimum. The guys stuck to the game plan and capitalized on enough scoring chances. That is the approach—focusing on our own strengths—we want to take against Milano as well."
