Padel on Ice | Coldest Court
Padel is nothing new for the four ice hockey players. They all play regularly and also use the sport as part of their training. However, the Coldest Court presented unique conditions: The padel court was set up directly on the ice surface of the Red Bull Academy, thus combining two sports that are equally characterized by quick reactions, anticipation, communication, and teamwork.
Supported by Premier Padel and with tips from padel star Delfi Brea, Luca Auer and Peter Hochkofler ultimately prevailed against Philipp Krening and Veit Oswald.

Before the direct duel began, the four players completed several challenges to familiarize themselves with the court and the unfamiliar conditions. They received additional support from Delfi Brea, one of the leading players on the Qatar Airways Premier Padel Tour, who gave the ice hockey professionals some tips before the match.
Peter Hochkofler: “We all really enjoy playing padel, so we were immediately excited when we heard about the idea. We're certainly comfortable on the ice, but we usually hold an ice hockey stick there, not a padel racket. As soon as the match started, the ambition was there. We were determined to beat Munich.”
In the subsequent match, Auer and Hochkofler faced Krening and Oswald. The parallels between the two sports quickly became apparent: quick reactions, good positioning, and coordination with one's partner were also crucial on the padel court. In the end, Salzburg prevailed, securing victory at the Coldest Court tournament in front of their home crowd.
"Winning here in Salzburg makes it all the more special, of course. We play a fair amount of padel, but this was something completely different. As soon as there was something at stake, we took the match very seriously," said Hochkofler.
Munich's Veit Oswald was also enthusiastic after the duel: "We really enjoy padel, and it's part of our training, so we knew it would quickly become competitive. You need quick reactions, good communication, and a strong partner. There are definitely some parallels to ice hockey. Of course, we would have loved to beat Salzburg, so we'll probably have to ask for a rematch."
Premier Padel partnered with the Coldest Court, bringing professional padel to an extraordinary setting. Bullpadel provided the rackets, Wilson the balls, and the official referee for the match was provided by the International Padel Federation (FIP).
