The Red Bulls extended their current six-game winning streak with a 4-3 overtime victory in Feldkirch yesterday and now aim to further improve their performance against Budapest. Forward Peter Hochkofler, who could play his first competitive game of the season after a long injury layoff, is also expected to contribute.
Next home game On 28 December vs. FTC-Telekom Budapest | 4.30 p.m.
Statement Philipp Wimmer
Background
With their 4-3 overtime victory yesterday in Feldkirch, the Red Bulls returned from the Christmas break with a win. The two points were hard-fought, but well-deserved considering the course of the game. This sixth consecutive victory should boost their confidence, even though it temporarily pushed the defending champions from Bolzano back down to sixth place in the standings (both teams have 52 points, but Bolzano has a better goal difference and two games in hand).
For FTC-Telekom Budapest, the Christmas break was a bit longer, as the Hungarian team had a bye yesterday. In their last game before Christmas (on December 21st), they suffered a 0-5 home defeat against league leaders KAC, but had previously made a statement with their 5-4 away win in Villach. FTC-Telekom currently sits in eighth place, but desperately needs points to defend their current pre-playoff spot.
Canadian-Finnish Power Leads to Goals
With 79 goals, Hungary is only the ninth-best offensive team in the league. However, three players account for almost half of all their goals. Canadians Braeden Shaw (16 goals) and Tyler Coulter (10), along with Finn Jussi Tammela (11), have scored 37 goals in 29 games, spread across the first two lines.
For the Red Bulls, currently seventh in this ranking, their 93 goals are more evenly distributed. Their top scorers are Michael Raffl and Lucas Thaler (both 12), as well as Travis St. Denis and Troy Bourke (both 9 goals).
Peter Hochkofler Set for Comeback
#For Peter Hochkofler, the home game against Budapest could be a belated Christmas present. The 31-year-old forward is fit again after more than four months and will likely make his comeback on Sunday. Hochkofler played his last game with the Red Bulls on August 16th in a friendly against Kosice. This would leave Salzburg missing only Ali Wukovits, whose return after hip surgery in early July is also drawing ever closer.

Statement by Philipp Wimmer
"It wasn't easy to rediscover our aggressive style of play in Feldkirch. But it got better and better towards the end, and it paid off in the end. The Hungarians also play fast and aggressively and give you little space. We simply have to keep the game going and play to our strengths. That means quick breakouts, then driving the puck deep and towards the net."
