Game report
Just minutes after the start of the game – just before the Salzburg championship flag from last season was ceremoniously raised under the roof of the stadium – the Red Bulls took the lead. Lukas Hörl took the rebound from Florian Baltram's shot and scored his first professional goal behind Klagenfurt goalkeeper Sebastian Dahm (5th minute). In a fierce game from the start, Connor Corcoran extended Salzburg's lead on the power play, with the puck bouncing right at his feet (10th minute). KAC then got into gear, and a fast-paced back-and-forth ensued, with Salzburg's defender Atte Tolvanen having to intervene several times, first on a dangerous punt in front of the goal, then shorthanded. The Red Bulls remained equally dangerous, and Peter Schneider hit the post on a 3-on-2 counterattack shortly before halftime (20th minute). 2-0 after 20 minutes.
The second period saw the typical Salzburg vs. Klagenfurt game. Both teams pushed the pace, and one-on-one battles dominated the action with a healthy dose of toughness. With a lot of traffic in front of the goal and a lack of coordination in Salzburg's defense, the visitors seemingly scored a goal (29th minute), but it was disallowed after video review. Travis St. Denis had the next big chance after a short solo run (33rd minute). The momentum continued to shift back and forth, with no respite. Klagenfurt's Jesper Jensen Aabo hammered the puck into the post on the power play (35th minute). A little later, Lukas Schreier had a chance but couldn't control the puck in front of Sebastian Dahm (38th minute). After an incredibly intense and evenly matched second period, the home team held on to a 2-0 lead.
The visitors started the final period strongly, with Atte Tolvanen squandering two great chances from mid-range. In return, Michael Raffl distributed passes in front of Sebastian Dahm's net, and Lucas Thaler narrowly missed. Then KAC scored to make it 1-2, Jan Mursak firing from close range (43'). The chances continued to alternate, with no one giving up an inch. The Red Bulls had more possession overall, but Klagenfurt had dangerous counterattacks every time. In the final minutes, the visitors' pressure increased, and Salzburg struggled to get them out of the defensive zone. Only Devante Stephens' goal, brilliantly set up by Michael Raffl, freed the Red Bulls from this grip. Connor Corcoran's goal into the empty net – the defender scoring twice – capped off a truly good game with a 4-1 victory for the Red Bulls.

Statement from Lukas Hörl
"It was a tough battle. Klagenfurt played well, we held our own, and took full advantage of our opportunities. And we have Atte [Tolvanen] at the back, which makes life easier."
