Highlights Red Bulls vs. EV Zug
Match report
At the start of Red Bull Salute 2025, EC Red Bull Salzburg had to do without five players: Ali Wukovits, Mario Huber, Peter Hochkofler, Vadim Schreiner (recovering from injury) and Dennis Robertson (personal reasons). In their place, young academy players Florian Lanzinger, Maximilian Kirchebner, and Mathias Böhm were given another chance to prove themselves in the Salzburg professional team.
Both teams started the game focused and successfully blocked the first few good attacks. However, a brilliant pass into the slot right in front of goalkeeper Atte Tolvanen was enough to break through the Salzburg defense. Andreas Wingerli only had to hold out his stick (8th minute). After that, the Red Bulls pushed forward more and created better chances, which Zug goalkeeper Leonardo Genoni was able to thwart. The Swiss goalie legend also made up for a brief mistake, in which he ventured too far out of the goal area, with his teammates after a massive scramble.
The Red Bulls showed that they are also capable of playing short passes after the restart in the second period. Travis St. Denis converted Lucas Thaler's pass to equalize (21st minute). Zug had the answer, with Gregory Hofmann regaining the lead with a backhand shot after a quick hook in front of the goal (24th minute). Salzburg then lost control of the game for a long time, but suddenly came back. Connor Corcoran curled the puck from distance into the top corner to equalize (32nd minute), and just two minutes later, Lucas Thaler gave the Red Bulls a 3-2 lead with a one-timer from a sharp angle during a power play (34th minute). However, after a 2-on-1 counterattack (37th minute) and another goal from Gregory Hofmann, Zug equalized before the break in what was becoming an increasingly emotional game. 3-3. Now the game was completely even. High tempo, good scenes alternating on both sides. But it was with a puck deflected off the chest that the Swiss scored the go-ahead goal in the 55th minute. Tomas Tatar was standing right next to the post, leaving Atte Tolvanen with no chance. The Red Bulls were unable to equalize in the remaining minutes, but lost a high-level game against a strong opponent by the narrowest of margins. Salzburg will now play for third place tomorrow, Saturday (3:00 p.m.), while Zug will play in the final (7:00 p.m.).

Statement Manny Viveiros
“It was a very good game from both teams. I'm very happy with my team today, especially considering we were missing a few players. There were some good battles and a lot of pace. And we were a little unlucky with the last goal we conceded.”
