This is the 46-year-old American's third coaching stint in Europe after Biel and Salzburg.Statement Oliver David
"The move to Munich is only possible because of the work we have done in Salzburg and what we have achieved in the last two years. It could only happen because the players and the staff team pulled together and did everything it takes to win championships. It was a great challenge for us coaches to give the players everything they need on the ice to win. Coaching this close-knit group was a new experience for me that helped me personally. I will now take this knowledge with me to Munich. I hope to leave Salzburg an even better place than when I took over two years ago. I would like to thank the Red Bulls organization and especially Helmut [Schlögl], who gave me the chance to work as head coach of a professional team for the first time."

When Oliver David came to Salzburg in the summer of 2023, he already had the experience of many years as a junior coach in the USA and two years as an assistant coach in the Swiss top league NL with EHC Biel-Bienne. In the end, he also briefly took over the role of head coach on the bench for Antti Törmänen, who was ill.
His real era as head coach then began with the Red Bulls, in which he led Salzburg to the win2day ICE Hockey League title twice in two seasons and achieved the second-best result in the club's history in the CHL last season by reaching the quarter-finals. He also benefited from the know-how of the existing coaching team of Ben Cooper, Daniel Petersson and Markus Kerschbaumer, with whom he continued the Red Bulls' successful path and secured their fourth title win in a row. Last season, David was also awarded the Golden Lion, the Salzburger Nachrichten's prize for Coach of the Year.
David still had a current contract with the Salzburgers, but is moving to Munich by mutual agreement, where he will take over the position of head coach at the Red Bulls' German sister club in the PENNY DEL and thus remain with the Red Bulls organization.
