Starting position
In recent years, the duel between the Red Bulls and the South Tyroleans has become a long-running, emotional fixture in the ICE Hockey League, which is now set to continue in the playoffs. And it couldn't be more evenly matched: Salzburg and Bolzano will meet for the fifth time in total in the postseason. The last two decisions - the 2024 semi-final and 2023 final - were won by the Red Bulls. Bolzano won the final series in 2018 and 2014 (best of five). All four series went the full length, meaning they were only decided in the last possible game.
Remarkable: The Red Bulls lost the opening game in all four series. Three of the opening games were played in Salzburg and one (2023) was played in Bolzano. In the basic round of the current season, the Red Bulls won three of the four duels against Bolzano (see below) and recorded clear victories in the home games.
Decisive defense
The South Tyroleans conceded the fewest goals (113) of all the teams in the last basic round. The Red Bulls had the fifth-best defense with 130 goals conceded. In the current quarter-final against Székesfehérvár, however, the Red Bulls only conceded 5 goals in 4 games (1.25 goals per game). Bolzano played Villach over six games and conceded 14 goals (2.3 goals per game).
