Starting position
Salzburg fourth, Villach eleventh. These are the sober figures ahead of the first clash between the two clubs this season. VSV have certainly not got off to a good start and want to get out of the basement as quickly as possible. The Blue & Whites took a first step in this direction in the last Carinthia derby, when they defeated the KAC 3:2 in overtime after three previous defeats.
It was only their fourth win in 12 games - but one that will make the Red Bulls sit up and take notice, as they have already had the pleasure of facing the Austrian record champions twice, but have only managed to pick up one point each time. However, there is great anticipation for the game, as Villach will be bringing four former Salzburg players - Jean-Philippe Lamoureux, Philipp Lindner, John Hughes and Maxi Rebernig - back to their old stomping ground.
