Mode of the win2day ICE Hockey League 2023/24
The win2day ICE Hockey League consists of the same 13 teams as last season. This means that in the 2023/24 season, the league will again feature eight Austrian teams, three teams from Italy and one each from Hungary and Slovenia. The defending champion is EC Red Bull Salzburg.
In the regular season, a double round robin will be played. The teams ranked first through sixth after 48 match days qualify directly for the playoff quarterfinals. The teams ranked seventh through tenth will contest the pre-playoffs in best-of-three mode, with the seventh-place team choosing whether to face the ninth- or tenth-place team. The winners of the two series complete the field for the quarterfinals.
The quarterfinal pairings will also continue to be determined by a playoff pick. In this process, the top 3 teams select their opponent after the regular season. The fourth-place team is not available for selection and will face the team not selected in the pick. The quarterfinals, semifinals and finals will be played in best-of-seven mode. The team that is the first to achieve four wins will advance one round.
The winner of the win2day ICE Hockey League as well as the first two teams of the regular season qualify for the Champions Hockey League 2024/25. If the champion is already qualified, the third CHL starting spot of the league goes to the third-placed team of the basic round.
