The German champions dominated the early stages of the final and clearly had more of the game in the first period. With a fast pace, the Munich team created several high-caliber chances, but were initially unable to overcome the strong Finnish goalkeeper Niko Hovinen. In the second period, the Finns got going better in the high-class game and forced the Germans to do a lot of defensive work. Until the 28th minute, when Sten Fischer netted a short pass to give the Germans the lead. 30 seconds later the Finns had the answer, Juha Jääskä equalized with a rebound. In the now even back-and-forth, Kristian Vesalainen then scored classically from the blue line on the power play without a view for Munich's backstop Daniel Allavena for a 2-1 intermission lead.
The final period was decided by three goals within one and a half minutes. Iiro Pakarinen increased the lead on the powerplay (49th), Munich's Chris DeSousa tied the game again (51st), before Miro Väänänen restored the 2-goal advantage just 14 seconds later. The game remained exciting until the end, because Munich continued to try everything, but the strong and tall Finns did not let them take this victory away. Helsinki IFK won the final 4-2 in their second appearance (after 2019) and claimed the tournament title for the first time.
