Game summary The Juniors tested Italian goalkeeper Rudy Rigoni several times in the first shift. The Red Bulls dominated the opening minutes and repeatedly established themselves in the attacking third. Asiago defended compactly, remained cautious, and repeatedly created dangerous chances with quick transitions. The Italians made their first mark in the 8th minute of the game: After a brief period of pressure, Nicholas Porco played the puck to Robert Calisti behind the goal, who found Lucas Chiodo at the far post, and Chiodo scored to make it 1-0 against Luca Haitzmann. The home team then became more active and immediately created further chances. The Juniors then found their way back into the game before conceding a penalty. With a man advantage, Nicholas Porco converted Ryan Valentini's pass in the 14th minute to make it 2-0. The Red Bulls immediately sought to score the equalizer, but Asiago remained dangerous with their trap and quick transition play and even had a 3-on-1 situation (18th minute), but failed to convert. Shortly before the end of the period, the Juniors earned another power play, but the intermission interrupted the power play.
The Red Bull Hockey Juniors started the second period with a man advantage, but struggled to gain a foothold in the attacking third. It was only during another power play that the Salzburg team was able to establish their positions and test Rigoni with shots, but the goalkeeper remained steadfast. Back at full strength, the home team once again created the more dangerous chances and cleverly closed down the middle defensively. Asiago had further offensive opportunities and another power play, while the Juniors struggled to consistently find their way toward the opponent's goal. In the 36th minute, Paul Oberhauser broke through the Italian defense after a give-and-go with Jesse Juhola and scored to make it 1-2. Spurred on by the goal, the Juniors played much more actively and created further chances. Shortly before the end of the period (40th minute), Maxim Eliseev, Jesse Juhola, and Paul Oberhauser were once again denied by Rigoni, but the momentum was now clearly on the Red Bulls' side.
The final period began evenly. Both teams created further chances, with the game seesawing back and forth across the ice. The Juniors now managed to break through the Italian defense more often, while the home team increasingly sought out the tallest player and thus quickly bridged the middle third. Luca Haitzmann was called into action several times. Asiago had another power play, but the Red Bulls held strong once again. Both teams fought for every inch, with numerous puck changes characterizing the game. It was only in the final minutes that the Juniors established themselves more frequently in the attacking zone and tested Rigoni from all angles. In the last two minutes of the game, Salzburg tried to play with a sixth field player, but Asiago remained compact. A clearance shot by the home team hit the post in the 60th minute and landed just in front of the Salzburg goal line. Further shots by the Juniors found no way past Rigoni, and so the Red Bull Hockey Juniors had to admit defeat in Asiago with a score of 1-2.

Head Coach Teemu Levijoki
“We were able to play our game until we conceded the goal and also for part of the second period, but we made too many mistakes. Asiago made it very difficult for us today. We need to play our system better in defense and also in attack, and that applies to all players on the ice. We always have three or four players who implement this, and then others who break away. We need to pull together. We'll have another chance on Saturday.”
