Game Summary
Merano got off to a better start and tested Juniors goaltender Luca Haitzmann early on. The Red Bulls initially struggled to mount offensive pressure, while the visitors repeatedly created dangerous chances. Michael Levin had a good opportunity on a breakaway (11th minute), but Haitzmann kept a clean sheet. The Juniors then earned their first power play but couldn’t find a way to score against the Italians’ compact defense. In the final minute of the first period, Paul Oberhauser and Tobias Koller had a 2-on-1 opportunity, but the shot hit the post (20th minute). The game remained scoreless heading into the first intermission.
The Red Bull Hockey Juniors got off to a much better start in the second period and immediately took control of the game. An early power play created the first good scoring chances, and shortly afterward, the Salzburg team even had a two-man advantage. However, the opening goal just wouldn’t come at first. The Juniors then had to defend while shorthanded for the first time, but they weathered that storm unscathed as well. In the 34th minute, it was finally Matteo Schroth who, after receiving a pass from Luca Fischer and Paul Oberhauser, found space in the slot and scored his first goal in the Alps Hockey League to make it 1–0. Merano responded shortly afterward: Nathan Garau scored off assists from Matthias Pardatscher and Luca Cortese to tie the game at 1–1 (38th minute).
The final period turned into an intense and evenly matched contest, with both teams looking to score the go-ahead goal. The Red Bulls finally capitalized on another power play: Florian Lanzinger converted a pass from Benedikt Krainer and Luca Fischer to make it 2–1 (47th minute). Merano then increased the pressure, and the Juniors were forced to defend while shorthanded once again. Luca Haitzmann secured the lead with a series of strong saves. In the final minute of the game, the visitors pulled their goalie for an extra skater, but the Red Bulls defended resolutely and held on for the 2–1 home victory.

Statement by Forward Lucas Gritznig
“My first game for the Juniors was, of course, really cool. It was a special feeling to be on the ice with the older guys. We didn’t get off to the best start in the first ten minutes, but we played much better after that and put in a strong performance for long stretches of the game. In the end, we deserved the three points.”
