Highlights Hydro Fehérvár AV19 vs. Red Bulls
Game Summary
Right from the start, the Hungarians put pressure on Atte Tolvanen in the Salzburg net. The game quickly developed into a closely contested affair, initially without many scoring opportunities. The shots improved; Salzburg had more possession early on, but the home team took the lead. Joel Messner made no mistake with a clear chance in the half-high slot (8th minute). Salzburg responded immediately. On the power play, the puck came off the boards to Michael Raffl, who scored from a sharp angle at the near post (11th minute). And the Red Bulls kept up the pressure. Michael Raffl set up Travis St. Denis with a perfect cross-ice pass into the right face-off circle, and St. Denis finished with a one-timer against Székesfehérvár's goalie Rasmus Reijola to give Salzburg a 2-1 lead (14th minute). Troy Bourke then converted a pass from Dennis Robertson into the slot with a one-timer to extend the Red Bulls' lead to 3-1 (17th minute). At this point, Salzburg had the game under control, but a lucky shot from Maxwell Gerlach (19th minute), which Atte Tolvanen couldn't stop due to poor visibility, brought the home team back within one goal before the first intermission.
The Hungarians came out of the locker room strong and forced the Red Bulls onto the defensive with several dangerous shots at the start of the second period. It wasn't until three minutes in that Salzburg found their offensive rhythm, with Lucas Thaler having the first good chance under pressure in front of the Hungarian net (24th minute). Then came the second penalty against Székesfehérvár, and Salzburg scored again, with Connor Corcoran netting a long-range shot to make it 4-2 (28th minute). At even strength, the Red Bulls gradually regained control of the game, but three penalty kills took a significant toll on their offensive play, even though they defended them flawlessly. The Red Bulls went into the second intermission with another penalty, but still led 4-2.
The home team went on the offensive again and created several scoring chances. Atte Tolvanen, among others, denied Istvan Terbocs, who had broken through on goal (43rd minute). The Hungarians kept up the pressure and generated some good scoring opportunities, while Salzburg defended and rarely managed to launch counterattacks. Then came a strong play by Brandon Coe, who skated past the defenseman on the outside and fired the puck into the far corner – 5-2 (49th minute). The Hungarians continued to press, but now found Tolvanen unable to break them down. In the 55th minute, the home team pulled their goalie during a power play, but the move went unrewarded. Mario Huber scored into the empty net, sealing a decisive 6-2 victory in Székesfehérvár.
Statement Manny Viveiros
Statement by Manny Viveiros
"In principle, today was a playoff game. The Hungarians are still fighting for their pre-playoff spot, and we want to maintain our third place. Overall, we played a good game and are happy that it worked on the power play as well."
