The schedule included a match against HC Energie Karlovy Vary, participation in the EVZ Prospects Challenge in Zug, a tournament in Tábor, Czech Republic, and home and away games against the Oberliga clubs Stuttgart Rebels and Deggendorfer SC.
The first successes came with a 4-0 victory against the U20 team from Tappara Tampere and an away win against the Stuttgart Rebels, which ended 5-4. These positive results served as important steps in the preparation and gave the young team confidence for the upcoming season. With an average age of just 18.7, the Juniors were once again the youngest team in the competition.
However, the preparations also presented challenges: several players were temporarily promoted to the EC Red Bull Salzburg professional squad to compensate for injury-related absences. This gave some of the U20 academy players their first opportunity to gain experience in adult ice hockey. This was also reflected in the choice of opponents: while the first pre-season games were still played against junior teams of the same age, the program towards the end included matches against physically strong Oberliga teams – a valuable opportunity for the young talents to assess their current level.
Captain Adrian Gesson draws a positive conclusion:
"We have continuously improved over the course of the preseason. Starting with games against opponents of the same age helped us to slowly get used to adult ice hockey. Each of us knows why we are on the team and contributes our individual strengths. We have to deal with players constantly switching between teams – the key is that everyone does their job. Now we're looking forward to the first game of the season and want to start with a win."
