Course of the game
The Red Bull Hockey Juniors opened the Wings for Life matchday after just 13 seconds of play with the first goal (1st) by Philipp Krening. The game was hotly contested up and down at high speed. The South Tyroleans did everything they could to equalize again. Despite a number of good chances for the visitors, Junior goalkeeper Simon Wolf could not be beaten for the time being. The strong support spurred on the Juniors, who also failed to score. In the 17th minute, Fabian Hackhofer finally scored the final goal for Wipptal.
The second period started at high speed. The young Salzburgers immediately pressed for the lead again and were able to establish themselves in the offensive third. The Broncos only managed to find their way back into the game when they had an overtime opportunity. The home side defused this with strong short-handed play and thus gained momentum. Philipp Wimmer took advantage of this and increased the lead to 2:1 in the 29th minute after a pass from Philipp Krening. The Red Bull Hockey Juniors were then confronted with a seven-minute short-handed spell. In the ensuing overtime, the Wipptal Broncos managed to equalize again through Bryson Cianfrone (37').
Having arrived in the final period and survived the seven-minute deficit with only one goal conceded, the Juniors stepped up the pace. However, the game remained tied despite the home side having an overtime opportunity. The Broncos played compactly in defense and hardly allowed the young Salzburgers to get in front of the goal. Both teams battled for the lead in a physical manner and with good chances. In the 56th minute, Vadim Schreiner scored after a pass from Paul Vinzens to make it 3:2. South Tyrol now tried to equalize the game again with their sixth man, but Paul Vinzens scored the empty-netter in the 60th minute to seal the 4:2 home win for the Red Bull Hockey Juniors at the Wings for Life matchday.
